Consumer Flexibles is a Business Unit with ~1,000 employees and annual sales exceeding €400M. We are making significant investments in our Solec plant and are seeking an experienced Business Development Director to drive strategic growth in our high-barrier functional paper solutions, targeting FMCG customers in the food, home & personal care (HPC), and pet food sectors.
This is an individual contributor role with clear accountability for identifying, developing, and converting high-value opportunities into value-accretive order intake. The successful candidate will combine strategic thinking with hands-on execution, leveraging market insights, technical understanding, and strong customer relationships to shape the future of sustainable packaging.
This is a fixed-term position for two years.
Your mission:
- Business Growth: Identify, qualify, and secure new business opportunities for high-barrier functional paper applications, delivering measurable order intake and revenue growth.
- Go-to-Market Leadership: Develop and execute targeted go-to-market strategies for high-performance functional paper products.
- Customer Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with decision-makers across FMCG brand owners, OEMs, procurement, R&D, and sustainability teams.
- Solution Development: Partner with Technical Service, Sales, and R&D teams to create tailored solutions that meet specific customer performance and sustainability needs.
- Market Intelligence: Monitor market trends, regulatory developments, and competitor activity to inform strategy and positioning.
- Pipeline Management: Maintain a robust pipeline of qualified leads and opportunities, ensuring systematic progression through the sales funnel to contract closure.
Your Profile:
- Minimum 15 years of experience in sales or business development within paper, packaging, or polymer industries.
- Deep understanding of barrier technologies, coating systems, and functional paper/polymer structures, plus knowledge of paper, coating, and printing processes.
- Proven success in launching new products and securing major FMCG accounts (global brand owners and/or leading regional players).
- Strong commercial acumen with a history of closing complex B2B deals.
- Ability to think strategically while executing with speed and precision.
- Strong problem-solving ability; able to make informed judgments based on data, practice, and experience.
- Experience in cross-functional, international environments; adept at navigating a matrix organisation.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritise effectively, and manage multiple high-value opportunities in parallel.
- Excellent presentation, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Fluent in English; German or another European language is an advantage.
- Willingness to travel 40+% (primarily to customers and to the Solec site)
